TATTOO HEALING PROTOCOL

50% of your tattoo's lifelong beauty depends on how your artist tattoos it. The other 50% depends on your discipline over the next 14 days.

RESPONSIBLE HEALTH & AFTERCARE GUIDANCE

This guide provides general, studio-verified aftercare education. Always follow your specific resident artist's verbal instructions, as placement and needle depth dictate personalized healing approaches. This information does not replace professional medical advice. If you experience prolonged fever, excessive warmth, or red streaking, consult a qualified physician immediately.

TIMELINE

DAY-BY-DAY HEALING ROADMAP

DAYS 01 – 03Initial Exudation & Protection

The SecondSkin Barrier Phase

  • Leave the medical polyurethane SecondSkin film on for 48 to 72 hours as instructed by your artist.
  • It is completely normal for a fluid pocket (mixture of plasma, lymph fluid, and excess carbon pigment) to form beneath the film.
  • Do not puncture or drain the bubble. It acts as your body's natural sterile healing serum.
  • You may shower quickly, but do not submerge in a bathtub or expose the film to direct high-pressure shower jets.
DAYS 04 – 07Epidermal Regeneration

First Removal & Gentle Cleansing

  • Gently peel off the film in a warm shower, pulling downward parallel to your skin rather than straight out.
  • Wash with clean lukewarm water and a fragrance-free, antibacterial liquid soap using only clean fingertips. Never use a washcloth or sponge.
  • Pat gently dry with a fresh, clean paper towel. Do not rub with bath towels that harbor household bacteria.
  • Apply a paper-thin layer of unscented, tattoo-certified moisturizing balm (e.g., INKORA Healing Salve or Hustle Butter).
DAYS 08 – 14Cellular Shedding

The Peeling & Flaking Phase

  • Your tattoo will begin to peel like a mild sunburn with colored flakes. THIS IS COMPLETELY NORMAL.
  • CRITICAL: Never pick, scratch, or peel flaking skin. Peeling skin prematurely pulls ink directly out of the dermis, leaving empty white spots.
  • Apply light moisturizer 2–3 times daily whenever the skin feels dry or tight.
  • Avoid tight friction-heavy synthetic clothing over the healing area.
DAYS 15 – 30Dermal Locking & Longevity

Maturation & UV Armor

  • The surface epidermis is now sealed. Your tattoo may appear slightly milky or 'silver' as fresh collagen settles.
  • Sunlight is the #1 enemy of tattoo pigment. Always apply broad-spectrum SPF 50+ mineral sunscreen whenever exposed to direct sunlight.
  • Book your complimentary 6-month micro touch-up if any hairline lines require sharpening.
THE MANDATORY RULES (DO)
  • Wash hands thoroughly with soap before ever touching your fresh tattoo.
  • Pat dry gently with clean, disposable paper towels.
  • Wear loose, soft, breathable cotton clothing over the healing skin.
  • Stay hydrated and maintain balanced nutrition to fuel cellular repair.
  • Contact the studio immediately on WhatsApp if you have questions.
STRICTLY PROHIBITED (DON'T)
  • NEVER submerge in swimming pools, hot tubs, lakes, or ocean water for 21 days.
  • NEVER expose fresh tattoos to direct sunlight or tanning beds.
  • NEVER pick, peel, or scratch scabs or flaking skin.
  • NEVER apply thick petroleum jelly (Vaseline) which suffocates dermal pores.
  • NEVER let household pets lick or touch the fresh tattoo surface.
